Treta Fight — "treta" is Brazilian slang for a heated feud — takes political bickering where it always seemed to be heading: an arcade ring. It is a free 2D fighting game that runs in the browser with nothing to install, in which caricatures of Brazilian and American politicians trade punches, kicks and flying kicks in settings such as the Brazilian National Congress, the Chamber of Deputies, the Supreme Court and the White House.
Under the jokes sits a proper fighting game: every move has a wind-up, an impact and a recovery, high and low guards matter, dodging is all about timing and each match is a best of three 60-second rounds. Play the computer on three difficulty levels, or call someone over to share the keyboard. The game itself is in Portuguese, but the menus are simple enough to follow without it.
Full disclosure: Treta Fight is made by the same team that runs GamesToPlay.
Highlights
- Nine fighters in the Politics universe. Bolsonaro, Lula, Dilma Rousseff, Donald Trump, Alexandre de Moraes, Flávio and Eduardo Bolsonaro, Nikolas Ferreira and Paulo Figueiredo — all as caricatures, each with their own fighting style, speed and power.
- Six illustrated arenas. The National Congress, the Chamber of Deputies, the Supreme Federal Court, a prison yard, an airport runway with a jet ready to take off and the White House, with a depth camera and an animated crowd in the background.
- Real fighting-game moves. Punch, kick, uppercut, sweep, flying kick, high and low guard, dodge, jumps, knockdowns and getting back up — 576 hand-made poses in all.
- A celebration every round. Whoever takes the round plays their own victory celebration, while the crowd shouts in speech bubbles.
- Arcade sound. Arcade music, impact effects and pain voices that do not repeat on every hit, with separate volumes for music, effects and voices.
- Built for phones too. On phones and tablets an on-screen d-pad and attack buttons appear, and matches are played in landscape so the arena is bigger.
How to play Treta Fight
A match takes a few minutes and needs no account or sign-up:
- Tap Play. The game opens at its own address, right in the browser.
- Choose the Politics universe ("Política"). It is the universe unlocked in this version; others are being prepared.
- Choose a mode. One player against the computer on one of three difficulty levels, or two players on the same keyboard.
- Pick the fighters and the arena. Each fighter has a different style, speed and power; the arena only changes the scenery.
- Win two rounds. Each round lasts 60 seconds. When time runs out, whoever has more health wins; a draw counts for nobody.
Controls
On a computer both players share the keyboard. On phones and tablets the touch controls show up by themselves (and can be switched on with the "Controles de toque" button).
- Player 1: A and D move, W jumps, S crouches, J punches, K kicks, I uppercuts, hold L to block and U dodges.
- Player 2: the arrow keys move, jump and crouch, 1 punches, 2 kicks, 3 uppercuts, hold 0 to block and 4 dodges — both the number row and the numeric keypad work.
- Combined moves: crouch and kick for a sweep; jump and kick in the air for a flying kick.
- Pause: Esc pauses the match, with options to resume, restart or go back to fighter selection.
- Touch screen: d-pad on the left and attack buttons on the right; you can hold a direction and attack at the same time.
Tips for winning the feud
- Block at the right height. Low attacks such as the sweep are blocked crouching; attacks from above such as the flying kick are blocked standing.
- Dodging is all about timing. It makes your fighter untouchable for only a moment: use it once the opponent has committed to a move, not before.
- Punish mistakes. Every move has recovery time. Block a heavy attack and hit back straight away, while the other fighter is still recovering.
- The uppercut beats the jump. Anyone jumping at you is exposed, and a well-timed uppercut knocks a flying kick out of the air.
- Ahead? Manage the clock. When time runs out the fighter with more health takes the round, so a small lead lets you play defensively.
- Raise the difficulty gradually. The hardest computer opponent punishes button mashing; practise the combined moves on easy first.
Requirements
Treta Fight runs in any current browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari — on computers, phones and tablets, with no plugins. It only loads the artwork for the two fighters and the arena of each match, so the first fight may take a few seconds on a slow connection. In two-player mode some keyboards cannot register many keys at once; if a move fails to come out, that is a keyboard limit rather than a bug.
Who it is for
Treta Fight is satire: the scenes are fictional, the figures are caricatures, and the game does not depict real events or have any endorsement, involvement or connection with the people and institutions it portrays. The violence is cartoonish with no blood, and the game is aimed at teenagers and adults (13+). There are no accounts, chat, bets, purchases or prizes; the record against the computer is stored only in your browser. The illustrations were made with the help of AI.
